Channel Paid

There are three types of digital marketing that you could fall under – you could even fall under all three. Most digital marketers these days are proficient in most if not all of them because it broadens their skill set and guarantees them more work.

Channel Paid marketing is the process of paying for advertising. This means facets like search engine marketing (SEM) and advertisement – image or video. An excellent example would be Neil Patel. Most digital marketers know how to execute SEM and produce standard video advertising that you might see on your Facebook, for example.

Channel Earned

The second area of expertise in the life of a digital marketer is Channel Earned marketing.

This requires you to get creative and know the demographics of the business you are promoting inside and out. It cannot be paid or owned – it’s the most organic marketing tool out of the three. It is the natural growth of interest in a brand’s product/services based on the quality of the brand’s product or service.

Channel Owned

Once that traffic has arrived at your desired destination, you’ve got another job altogether.

Digital marketers have to work hard to drive potential customers in the direction of the brand’s homepage and content, so once the interest is there, what they’re looking at is even more critical.

Owned marketing occurs on any platform that the brand owns and has full control of, such as the brand’s website, their social media across the board, and apps. A website like the Huffington Post is a good example.

Digital marketers who work on the home front have the hefty task of keeping these digital platforms user-friendly and visually appealing.

Online business and advertising have opened up a whole new world of job opportunities. While each facet of digital marketing requires a specific skill set unique to the job, some trends can be seen throughout that take a unique combination of expertise.

Despite the fact that digital marketing sounds like its relatively devoid of human interaction, digital marketers still require that ideal mix of computer and people skills – at the end of the day they are still dealing with and managing people.

Data analysis and good charisma are just two things that are involved in the day to day life of a digital marketer, as work online becomes more available.
