In pursuit of a postgraduate degree?

Well let me be one of your many well-wishers and congratulate you on receiving an undergraduate degree! I can speak from experience that it was not easy getting to this point. You have worked very hard and you should be very proud of yourself. Now that you’ve got that out of the way, and pleased the parents. What’s next?

Life after graduation

Life after university can be both an exciting and daunting thing to look forward to for fresh graduates. We are blessed to be living in an age where the world offers unlimited possibilities. A comforting path to choose is to enter directly into the job market. Begin at a large corporation under a graduate scheme, work for a smaller more private enterprise or takeover the family business. For many this is the perfect option upon receiving their degree because it allows for them to get experience working and enjoy the pleasures that come at the end of every working month.

What if that’s not what you want?

But for some graduates (me included), the job market is not appealing. It is rather daunting. What if after completing your degree you don’t know what you want to do? Where would you like to work? What if you came to realise that your chosen path of study is actually not the path you want to work in for the rest of your life? When faced with these types of questions, you don’t want to be pressured and just go with the norm and get a job just for the sake of having a job.

No regrets

You will only end up hating it and regretting your decision. Rather than sitting in your room all day long, binge watching shows on Netflix; go out there and get another degree! A postgraduate degree! The good thing about opting to take it in the UK is that it is only a one-year program and it will allow you to specialise in a field that is of interest to you and gain a level of knowledge that not everyone has access to.

I am not going to lie when I say that this degree will be a challenge but you will end up with experience that you won’t get just by sitting in a cubicle at an office. Take advantage of all the knowledge the world has to offer. People can take away your money and your happiness, but no one can take your knowledge. That is something that will remain with you for the rest of your life.
