The three highest paid jobs of 2017

If there’s one thing everyone searches for in life, it’s the perfect balance between a high paid job, and a job they’ll actually enjoy. And with unemployment on the rise in the UK, people are often forced to take on the lower paid jobs that they’ll absolutely hate doing. However, there are many routes to take to ensure the chances of this are minimal. Such as apprenticeships and university courses. This article is going to list some of the highest paid jobs this year, and the best way to achieve them.

Air Traffic Controllers

This is a role some people wouldn’t even consider as a career. But the world of aviation is huge and ever growing. It’s one of the few industries that will be around until the end of time. And most positions within the aviation world are high paid and rewarding. Now, becoming an air traffic controller takes immense skill, patience and hard work. The life of hundreds of thousands of people’s lives will essentially be in your hands on a daily basis. The role involves guiding pilots during takeoff, cruising and landing. With all controllers having to communicate with multiple different aircrafts at a time. It is extremely mentally challenging, and does require someone with a strong head. Not only due to dealing with the many tasks at a time, but also due to the fact people’s lives would be weighing on your shoulders. The aviation industry is 24 hour, so the hours aren’t that sociable. The pay begins at around £18,000 during training (we know it’s low) but senior air traffic controllers can earn up to £85,000 a year and have the chance to be based at countries all over the world. There is no degree required. But high maths and english GCSE’s, and some A-Levels are required.

Software Developers

It is known that people working within the IT industry can earn big money. Software developers being one of them. The role involves building, maintaining and even designing brand new systems. As with the aviation industry, the IT world is ever growing, and a career as a software developer will set most people up for life. A degree isn’t required for this role as routes such as apprenticeships can be taken. This will lead to a level 3 qualification. However if a degree route is taken, it does open a few more doors, companies nowadays are seeking people with higher qualifications, and it does potentially mean you can be sling-shotted to higher positions rather than starting from the bottom. Another route a developer can take once qualified and enough experience is gained is becoming a contractor. This is where companies approach a self employed developer, rather than taking the time to interview and hire a new employee. Generally a single contracted software jobs do bring in more money p/h than a hired one. Starting salaries of a developer average at around £30,000, and have the potential to earn anywhere up to £95,000 in more senior roles.

CEO or Director

We know this is an obvious one. But it genuinely is one of the highest paying jobs out there. But getting there is possibly the hardest part of the job. There are three routes to take to achieve this role. The first being the business is handed down to you by a family member. This is one of the most common and easiest ways of becoming a CEO. Granted, it does take a lot of knowledge to be able to take over a business, and said family member would have most likely shadowed their predecessor. The second is the most grueling. Working the way up through the ranks. This is also one of the most rewarding ways. You get to see the company from all angles, and will have the most experience out of anybody. Becoming a CEO this way is rare, and only really happens in really big companies such as Apple or Samsung. The third way would be creating the company yourself. This is the most mentally challenging and financially taxing of them all. Most of the time people throw everything they have into a business idea for it to amount to nothing. However, when it does go well, it can change lives. Being your own boss is everyone’s dream. Employed CEO’s can earn anything from around £65,000 up to the high hundreds of thousands for bigger companies. CEO’s who own the whole company pay themselves through a basic salary and dividends, so the amount they receive is all dependant on the annual turnover of the company.

The 3 jobs listed above are just some of the many high paid jobs in the UK. They each have their pros and cons, and their different ways of gaining entry. Granted some of them are more difficult than others, but they’re all rewarding in their own way.
