Although a half-hour commute may be nothing if you have your own car, the same journey on public transport will not only take much longer, but will be much costlier too, meaning that some jobs simply won’t be feasible for you.

You may also find that some companies are unwilling to promote employees who cannot drive. The reasons for this are usually simple. The more responsibility you hold within a company, the more time you’ll spend liaising with clients and contacts, and this usually means an increased amount of travel.
