How to stop yourself from losing passion for your subject

So you have just finished your last chocolate from the Celebrations box from Christmas, which means only one thing: it’s a new term, a new semester, a new start to the year at university. It’s time to get back into the swing of things.

The passion is fading

Yes, it is time to get back into the dreaded exams and deadlines. Sadly, many of my fellow students are lacking enthusiasm and the want and need to complete essays, thus are losing marks and failing modules altogether. Why, you may ask? Because they simply cannot be bothered. Some students are just too busy playing games on their PlayStation to even bother turning on a computer to even start an essay.

This is a very sad case of students losing their passion for a course. They are on holiday for the winter period, and they cannot be bothered to come back to university and start all over again.

Don’t get the hump

My dear readers of Career Camel; try not to fall into the trap of laziness and get the hump with your studies.

Whether or not you are doing your A Levels, GCSEs or studying a course at university, you will have chosen that subject because you had an interest and a passion for it. Maybe you chose that course because it is going to help you with your future, so it is important to work hard and try your best in order to get where you would like to be in life. I know university isn’t for everyone, and it is not the be-all and end-all when it comes to getting a career, but if you have signed up for it, you might as well give it a good old go.

Stay positive

When you return to it after a big break, return to it with enthusiasm and determination: not a negative attitude whereby you cannot be bothered to even show up to the lectures or do the assignments. It will be those people who wonder why they did not pass the course. You don’t want to become one of those people that have to resit because of the lack of tenacity.

There will be times in your education where you will feel bored and become aggravated. That may be because of a module or a new teacher or because you are getting to that time where you just want to graduate and get a job in your desired field.

My advice to you (which also applies to me) is to not to give up, and to keep calm and carry on. Thousands of other students did not get into the course you are studying, and you were fortunate to. So don’t waste your precious time not studying for a subject you are passionate about, as one day you will blink, and it will be over. You will look back and think, “I wish I had tried more.”

Be that student that looks back at your life in education and thinks, “You know what? I gave it my all and I am proud.”
