Seven ways to stay motivated at work

Have you ever had those days where no matter what you do you just feel so uninspired? You stare at your computer screen for hours trying to find that motivation, but it just isn’t there. We’ve all been there. With so many of us working from home due to coronavirus, it’s not uncommon to feel unmotivated in your role. While working from home seems like a luxury – no commute, work in our pyjamas, flexible schedules – it can also come with many distractions. Here are some tips that can help keep you happy, productive and stay motivated at work, even when working from home.

Get dressed

Getting ready is such a small but effective way to start your day off on the right note. I’m sure we’ve all heard the term “dress for success” and even though most of us are working from home now, getting ready can help boost our confidence and motivation levels. A study reported in the journal of Experimental Social Psychology found that what we wear has an impact on the way we think, feel, act and behave.

Take frequent breaks

Some days your work may seem a bit monotonous, which can lead to boredom and a decrease in productivity. Taking frequent breaks can combat those feelings to improve focus and motivation. To make your workflow more productive, try different strategies like the Pomodoro technique which breaks down work into intervals with small breaks in between. Scheduling breaks and making a point to walk away from your work for a bit can help you regain that motivation and focus you need to get your tasks done.

Eat healthy food

Part of keeping our brain function strong is being aware of what foods we are putting in our bodies. A healthy diet can improve your mental well being which in turn improves your motivation levels at work. Try incorporating more nutritional foods into your diet like berries, nuts, leafy greens, fatty fish and avocados. These healthier choices can have a positive influence on our workday and overall motivation.
