What are the jobs of the future?

The world is changing so quickly at the moment, it’s difficult to know where we’ll be in a few decades time. Hopefully, we won’t go the way of those dark sci-fi movies that predict our doom, but there’s no telling what could happen. The world of work is likely to be one of the most affected areas of life. Already we have automated tills that are taking over jobs in supermarkets and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. People have expressed concern that all of the jobs will be automated eventually, and nobody will have any work. While those worries are understandable, there are new jobs being created for every one that is being taken over by technology. That means that we’ll still have jobs, but the work landscape will look far different to what it does today. So, what kind of jobs should you be training yourself for?

End Of Life Planner

Advancements in medical technology have given rise to an ageing population. Life expectancy is constantly on the rise and so researchers have predicted that end of life planning will become a large part of society. Looking after people in their old age and helping them to use their last days is likely to be a job that has a lot of openings. If you’re interested in a caring career, then consider studying something like a masters in social work. This will give you the interpersonal and medical skills that you need to properly care for people as they get old. If you’re already trained, you should have no trouble finding a job when the career boom arrives.

Urban Farmer

Industrial farming is being challenged by an ever growing movement at the moment. More people are opting to go vegetarian or vegan because of the damaging effects that industrial farming has on the environment. We are also running out of space that hasn’t already been urbanized so it is possible that urban farming may become very prominent in the future. If these trends continue, we may see a shift towards more local farming in urban settings. There is a distinct possibility that there will be companies that can help people to learn how to create their own farms, and sell them the equipment to do it. Anybody that has good agricultural knowledge could be in very high demand soon.

Handyman

A handyman is already a pretty popular job. Most people can’t fix all of the small problems around the house, so they call somebody in to do it for them. We’ll still be using handymen in the future, but they’ll be fixing a whole new set of problems. Smart home technology is already becoming popular, and it looks like it’s here to stay. In the future, it’s likely that we’ll all have homes full of smart-tech. Just like all of the tech we have now, most of us won’t have a clue how to fix it if it goes wrong. That means that the handyman of the future won’t just be somebody that pops round to fix a leaky tap, instead they’ll be experienced engineers that know their way around complex computer technology.

These are just three of the possibilities for the most in-demand careers in the future, but nobody can know for sure which jobs will survive and which won’t.

What do you think the jobs of the future will be?
