Eight qualities of an excellent team player

A team player is a valuable asset to any organisation. While a lot different than a leader, team players are equally important in driving the organisation towards success. A leader can also be a team player if they keep their dominating nature aside and becomes a part of the group they are leading.

Let’s take a look at the unique qualities of a team player.

  1. Show genuine commitment

Team players are genuinely committed to their cause. A good team player might participate in the office hours but a great team player will make the participation worth their time. They will put 110 percent into their work.

  1. Easily and quickly adaptable

Instead of sitting at the bench watching the rest of the crew perform, an outstanding team player wants to see the magic happen through their efforts as well. They are flexible with the situations thrown their way, and they participate and tackle challenges without getting pressurised under any circumstances.

  1. Confident communication

While a good team player would get work done silently without trying to involve others as much as possible, an excellent team player will embrace the confidence and express their ideas clearly and honestly without staying in the shadows.

  1. Reliable and responsible

An excellent team player will be reliable and responsible. They are expected to be at the top of their game by completing the tasks as soon as they are given the job. They have positive relationships with colleagues, displaying high levels of reliability and responsibility.

  1. Actively listens

A team player is only excellent at their role if they consider and respect the viewpoints and ideas of other people as well. They understand and try to include colleagues by listening to their opinion and taking it into account; after all they are part of a team.

  1. Shares opinions

Likewise, they share their opinions without trying to come up with a plan on their own and take credit for it. They keep other colleagues informed at all times, instead of plotting away new plans in the corner trying to lower others’ morale.

  1. Always ready to help

Even if it is not their job, you can expect the team player to give a few pointers that could help another person out in one way or another. They consider all team members as a part of the team, so they make sure everyone is involved at all times.

  1. Supports and respects others

Instead of shutting someone out or laughing at their ideas, an excellent team member knows how to respect fellow colleagues. And, remember that respect is only received when you give it to others. An ideal team player knows how to have fun, but would never do it at the cost of someone else’s respect.

So, play your role by being an active part of your group, and through keen participation, attain your company’s goals efficiently.
