Driving for a living: what are your options?

If you love driving, there’s no reason why you couldn’t make it your job. After all, doing what you love every day is the best way to put a smile on your face on the way to work and throughout the day – or the night, depending on your working hours. So we’ve listed for you the top four driving professions that are trending and profitable at the moment.

Become a lorry driver

There’s one thing that we can say about lorry drivers: they do travel a lot. Lorry drivers often need to spend extended periods of time away from their family as they drive goods from one end of the country to the other, or even to another country. So if you want an easy 9-to-5 routine, driving a lorry is not the thing for you. But if you want to be paid by the mile and to provide your family with a standard of living , you’ve made the right choice. An entry level driver can expect to earn in average £30,000 during their first year. And you can also choose temporary positions, working with Pure Staff recruitment agency to discover roles in the driving industry. So, you can work long distances for half the year, and spend time with your family for the second half!

Become a bus driver

There’s a kind of driver that you see every day and that people rely on to for their daily social and professional requirements: the bus driver. Being a bus driver offers a lot more flexibility that you might think . In fact, you don’t need to conform to the 9-to-5 routine, which is good for people who need to arrange for their flexible lifestyle. Additionally, bus drivers receive plenty of advantageous benefits compared to an office job, from health schemes to regular days off. But more importantly, it’s a job where you know that working overtime is rewarded, not like in an office.

Become a taxi driver

If you love to meet new people and to have a fantastic story to tell your mates at the pub, becoming a taxi driver is a great option. In fact, the popularity of apps such as Uber has shown one thing, and it’s that taxi drivers are in demand. You don’t need to register to Uber to make it work, but it can be helpful to attract more clients on busy nights. However, as a rule of the thumb, people feel more confident ordering an ordinary black cab – even on Uber – than climbing at the back of a private car.

Become a test driver

If you love modern cars and you can’t get enough of them, you might want to embrace the career of a test driver. Before a car is released onto the market, it undergoes several test phases, from security experiments to test driving. While a lot of tests run through automated processes, test driving is just a man-made test where real drivers are given a real car to test. Admittedly you need to give the car back at the end of the test, but it’s a great job for car fanatics!

In short, driving continues to offer amazing work options from lorry driver to a test driver. And if none of this excites you, you can still try to join the McLaren team for their next race!
