The wealth of jobs in health

There are, simply put, a wealth of careers in health. This is helpful to know, because you’re not alone in your dilemma. Yes, I already know your dilemma, because thousands of eager, young, aspiring professionals share it: you want to help people, but you don’t know what healthcare career you want to enter. Am I right? I thought as much.

The thing is that you don’t have to be a doctor or a surgeon if you want to enter the medical industry. You don’t even have to be a nurse. None of this means that you aren’t cut out for a profession in the world of medicine and healthcare, because there are far more careers available to you than the big, notable ones. If you have the mentality of somebody who genuinely wants to help heal people, whether that’s in a physical or a mental sense, then you’re cut out for a career in health. Knowing where to begin may be tricky, of course, which is why I’m going to lay out some of the possible paths for you from here.

Optician.

Nobody really thinks to mention opticians when they think of the medical profession, but this could be a unique career for you within the realm of medical care. Though it may not seem as taxing as being a doctor or a surgeon, our eyes are incredibly precious. Not only do eye tests help us avoid any further damage to our vision, if we need glasses, but such tests can tell us whether or not there are any other underlying health problems. Opticians do much more than help us see. They look after our health.

The business of running a hospital.

Though it may be a public service in some parts of the world, running a hospital is still much like running a business. It’s a service that you provide to people, and it’s a necessity unlike many other businesses, but it still operates and functions in much the same way as many other occasions. Think of it this way, then: would Google continue to operate if it only hired coders? The answer is “no”. In much the same way, a hospital cannot operate through doctors and surgeons alone. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes, and, if you’re interested in that line of work, you might consider a degree in healthcare administration to really get your career underway. Helping people doesn’t always mean injecting the needle; sometimes you can help people by keeping the doctors organised and the lights switched on in the hospital.

Ever heard of podiatry?

Sometimes specific vocations in the healthcare industry suit an individual more. If the thought of learning a million different medical terms in all sectors of health and wellness is an idea which scares you, then perhaps you’re destined for a more specific, focused form of learning. Podiatry is a profession involving treatment to problems with the lower limb. I’m not saying it’s easy, of course, because healthcare never is. Still, if you want to help people, then helping within such a unique area of medical care could be the route for you.
