How to recruit the best employees

Finding the perfect employee for your business can be a lot tougher than it sounds. You have to find someone with the right skills, as well as the right attitude. The right education doesn’t hurt, either. So how do you recruit the best employees for your business? Here are a few tips to make sure you get the perfect fit for each position.

Go scouting

If you’re looking for the best lawyer for your business, you can put out an ad, but you probably won’t get the best. The best is probably already employed somewhere else. Ask around. Make calls. Set up an appointment. See how they work. It’s just an example, but this applies to all sorts, from cashiers to upper management. Simply asking a potential employee if they’re happy where they are, and if they’d like to be happier somewhere else can get you the best.

Attend interviews

It may be easier and free up more of your time to have someone else interview potential employees, but you are the only one who knows what you want for your business. Sit in on initial interviews to see how future employees interact with the people interviewing them. And when it comes down to the callbacks, sit down with them yourself and ask questions. This can make a huge difference because you not only get to see how these potential employees interact with current employees, you also get to get a read on them for yourself.

Look for Ingenuity

No one wants a rule breaker, but a problem solver is a great person to have on board. A great employer knows that there are exceptions to every rule and that they must trust their employees to make the right choices and use their head to make profitable decisions. The best employees know when to bend a rule to ensure the company’s success. Hiring someone who takes responsibility and isn’t afraid to make their own decision (within reason) is truly an asset for your company. Ingenuitive employees often help businesses more than they hurt them.

Ask questions

Asking basic questions is fine, but if you want to hire the best, ask thought-provoking questions. What would they change about your company? Why would they hire themselves? How would they handle a difficult situation? If they answer in a way that makes you think they could move up in the company, you should hire them. According to Bachus & Schanker Law, catering questions to your business can help you dig up some real gems.

Hiring right is a huge part of any business. Doing it right the first time can mean the difference in getting the job done right.
