Many of us can get a little bored of the general nine to five job. Reporting into someone at every moment, deadlines to manage and commit to, and the extra hours out of the office where you think of nothing but tomorrow’s “to do” list. However, many people feel trapped in this line of work but actually you don’t have to do this. Becoming your own boss and being self-employed may seem a little daunting, but it can suit your needs and help you to earn better as well as broadening your career options. I wanted to share with you some of the best jobs or career moves to consider to help you become your own boss.

A delivery driver

It may not sound the best job in the world but actually delivery drivers have a very simple career that suits many circumstances, hours and even pay. Often you may need your own van to get started, which then, of course, means the initial outlay of that and the insurance. Which thankfully there are some cheap van insurance quotes to be had. However, once all that is taken care of you can become contracted with different delivery agents, or even then set up yourself to make deliveries.

A digital career in social media management

Social media is big business these days and with more businesses needing to be ever present online, it could prove to be a very viable career move for you. Social media management means that you have the capability of posting content online for your client. Coming up with strategies and helping that client to improve their reach, their engagement or grow their audience.

Become a freelance writer

If you have a creative spark for the written word then a career as a freelance writer could provide you with the flexibility and the creative outlet to enjoy working for yourself on your terms. You could become contracted with a digital agency, or simply work for yourself pitching to companies to help produce their content online or improve their SEO in some way.

Tutor

If you have a specialist field and love to teach, or perhaps are a teacher that doesn’t want to work in a school environment anymore, then a career as a self-employed tutor coudl be ideal. You could pick your hours, charge an hourly rate, and be more flexible. You could certainly get a better feel for the role and feel more satisfied seeing improvements within students on a one to one level.

Think about a career as a blogger

Finally, if you don’t know the term blogger you must have been hiding under a rock for sometime. There is no shying away from the fact that more self-employed careers are connected with online platforms and being a blogger can actually provide you with an excellent wage. If you have a passion for a topic, are great at writing, then you can pick up the digital side of things very quickly. Thankfully, there are a lot of tutorials online to get you started.
